Manuscript Assessment/Developmental Edit

Plan to indie publish? Looking to submit to publishers and agents? Both of these avenues are excellent options. But first…let’s consider a manuscript assessment or a developmental edit.

A manuscript assessment provides an initial, big-picture set of feedback on your manuscript. (If you are not familiar with this option, you can learn more here.) The assessment results in an edit letter that covers plot, characters, pacing, theme, genre-specific feedback, pacing, and style. I also offer a one-hour online consultation to answer any questions you might have about my notes.

Rates are as follows (includes manuscript assessment and hour-long video consult):

  • Up to 60,000 words: $500.00
  • Each additional 10,000 words: $50.00
  • Student/Veteran/HWA Member Discount: %10 off final
  • 25% deposit required upon acceptance of project, balance required upon receipt of edit letter.

A developmental edit is a deep-dive into the structure and content of your first draft. The edit includes in-line notes, comments, and questions, and is designed to provide you with the feedback you need to bring your work to the next level.

Rates are as follows (includes edit letter, in-line notes, comments and questions, and a one-hour video consult):

  • $0.03/word – Full Manuscript
  • $140 – First three chapters/short story edit
  • Student/Veteran/HWA Member Discount: %10 off final
  • 25% deposit required upon acceptance of project, balance required upon receipt of edits
